About Us

 Pastor Chris, as he is known, was born and raised in the West Philadelphia section of the city. 
Even though he grew up in a Christian home with family that loved and served the Lord, he did not make a commitment to accept Jesus right away.

In 1979, someone witnessed to Pastor Chris, and that same day, he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.  Since that time, Pastor Chris has been serving the Lord faithfully at Crusaders for Christ Evangelistic Church, first under the pastorate of the Late Apostle Thelma Malone and now under Bishop David S. Hill.

Early in his saved life, Pastor Chris took the Beginners Bible Class, sang on the choir, played the drums, and sang with a group known as the Chosen Generation  He was ordained as a deacon in 1988, as a minister in 2000, as an elder in 2008, and set aside as Assistant Pastor to Apostle David S. Hill in 2009.

In addition to preaching the word of God, heading the Building and Maintenance Department, overseeing Friday night prayer, and teaching the teenage class in HYPE, Pastor Chris plays the organ. 

Taught by the Lord himself, Pastor Chris plays for the Praise and Worship team, all of the choirs, and the soloists at Crusaders for Christ.  He heads the music department with the same person who led him to the Lord, his wife, Evangelist Beth Johnson.  They were married in 1982, and the Lord blessed them with three children: Tanya, Kristen, and Brittany.  They also have five grandchildren: Jani, Omar, Nathan, McKenna, and Madison.  Their children and their children’s families serve the Lord with their parents at Crusaders for Christ Evangelistic Church. 

Bishop David Solomon Hill is the Senior Pastor of Crusaders for Christ Evangelistic Church, Inc, an International Ministry.  He is a visionary that God has anointed for such a time as this.  

On October 7, 1979, Bishop Hill surrendered his life to Jesus Christ. That Sunday, he entered the church high on alcohol and drugs and left saved and sober, and he has been serving God faithfully since then.  

In 1989, Bishop Hill answered the call to preach the Gospel.  Nine years later, the late Apostle Thelma Malone, led of the Holy Spirit to set things in order, recognized him as the Assistant Pastor.  In 2004, he was ordained Bishop over the churches in South Africa.  With the home going of Apostle Thelma Malone in September of 2007, he became Pastor.

Bishop Hill has a genuine desire to see the spiritual growth and development of each member.  He inspires them to see what they are capable of then help them get there.  He wants to see everyone walking in victory.  Additionally, there is a special place in his heart for the youth, and he would like to see each of them succeed.  

Bishop Hill is married to First Lady Lauretta Hill.  He and his wife are the proud father of two sons, one daughter, one granddaughter, one miracle grand-son, a son-in law, and two daughters-in-law.

One of his favorite Scriptures is: Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

 CHURCH HISTORY

Under the pastorate of the late Apostle Thelma R. Malone, Crusaders for Christ Evangelistic Church, was founded in 1972, and was housed on North 60th Street in West Philadelphia.  The church was known as a place where the word of God was preached with the demonstration of the power of God.​

As the ministry continued to grow, the Lord blessed the church to move into a new building at its current location.  Vibrant ministries such as convalescent home, street witnessing, missions, and feeding the hungry started under her leadership.  Additionally, a number of churches were birthed in Bridgeton, NJ, Ghana, West Africa, and in other areas.
Apostle Malone went home to be with the Lord in September of 2007.  Building upon the foundation laid by her, Apostle David S. Hill is carrying out his vision for the ministry.
